_____________
Trout
Trout
love Mayflies almost as much as anglers do. Why? The most obvious reason
is that a Mayfly has to dry its wings after it emerges and before it flies.
In essence 'A sitting duck'. When a particular hatch is at its peak there
may be hundreds of Mayflies or sitting ducks available for the trout to
tip up and eat almost effortlessly. Lots'o calories without expending
much effort. So in this particular situation your offering needs to be
presented in an immaculate fashion. One trick to stand out amongst all
the other 'sitting ducks' is to present a likely rendition but just slightly
oversized. Make your duck a little more inviting!
Steelhead
Let's
divide a specific steelhead run into three parts:
1)
The Head aka the riffle or rapid,
2) The Guts 'aka' the hole or bucket,
and
3)The
Tail 'aka' the tail out
Early summer run steelhead hardly see any pressure. Steelhead are inherently
tail out oriented. So if I had only one choice in the run as to where
I could fish for steelhead it would be the Tail out, period. In fact,
more often then not, the fish I catch in the tail out are usually caught
after I have said to myself, "Ok, I am done here, I need to find
a new run. Alright, maybe just a couple more casts and, there you go,
fish on!
Moral of the
story - Fish the tail out.
The The
Yakima - Here is what is yet to come
on 'Our Home Waters' - PMD's, Caddis, Drakes, Yellow Sallies, Summer Stones,
Fall Blue Wings, Cahill's, Salmon Spawn, October Caddis and Mahogany Duns.
We have guide staff on the river every day. Fishing the Yakima from its
headwaters to Roza since 1988.
The
Naches - Talk about a fun fishing adventure!
Combine white water and good trout fishing; Pretty cool. The best of the
Naches for float trips is from mid June until mid July! Big predator Cutthroat
are the prize of this one!
The Methow -
This one should start to fish consistently around July 1.
The Upper Columbia
- Here is our game plan for the remainder of 2010;
June 15 until July 20; Caddis, Yellow Mayflies and Drakes We
still have a few openings here - Call 509.773.3460
Sept 10 until Oct 10; October Caddis, Terrestrials,
Streamers and the nymph.
The
Klickitat
-
We have guide staff on the river every day from now until she closes on
Nov 30. If you want river insight, we are your guides!
Here are the steelhead hook up stats for a two boat party on the opener,
June 1st - Two days ago;
* One on a skated dry taken on a soft inside
* One on a Super Muddler fished subsurface with 7 feet of T-14 - Fish
ate in the extreme tail out, right before the curl into the next rapid
* 9 hook-ups on the nymph
Should be an awesome year!
When
someone says, 'The Klickitat is not a good swingin' river'. My response
would be, 'A river is as good a swingin' river as you want to make
it'
