Newsletter Tip

Trout tip - The soft hackle swing over the years has been the most overlooked technique for fishing trout. The soft hackle is typically thought to be best for a Caddis and Mayfly hatch. River midge hatches are another emergence where a soft hackle can be very effective as well. A #18 - #22 Olive or Black Soft Hackle fished on the swng, strip and hang down can be indredibly effective. Never overlook the hang down with a swung fly during an emergence.

The Cool Factor

So for another xtranormal laugh and typical fly fishing debate, check it out.

Once in awhile you get a good tip for a great place to sit down and have a good breakfast. A couple weeks ago while at the Western Washington Sportsman Show we got a great tip - In Sumner Washington, there is little restaurant called Dixie's Diner...Wow!...Nothing beats Dixies Homestyle Cooking, Nothing!

Good friend Robert Tomes has put together 'the factor' with his new book - It is the 'Musky Fly Fisher's Bible' Read about Robert in the New York Times

Evening Hatch Guide, Jennifer Mitchell, will be a featured speaker at the Sandy Spey Clave in May 2011

Movie Review

Salt **.75 For 'pretty cool action' from start to finish with a few plot twists that keep you guessing; Salt is good action with some typical 'No way could that happen' scenes. Angelina Jolie is convincing enough with her CIA operative status in this espionage/counter espionage action thriller.

Mother and Child
**.75 Well this one is not for all to see; I suppose if your Grandmother was really hip, then ok, maybe. There was nothing glorified in this film about the dynamics of three different families that by the twist of fate and personal choices cross paths. Annette Benning plays the somewhat bitter nursing professional in this drama and Jimmy Smits her knight in armour with a 'good outlook' on life. Samuel L Jackson also stars in this drama as the involved but not so involved widower looking for love.

The Town ***.5 Ben Affleck stars in this one and is Two Rods UP; and I am not an Affleck fan. Ben stars and directs this drama depicting modern day life in Charlestown, Mass. and the lives and lineage of Irish bank robbers. Nothing over the top, nor glamorized or sensationalized, just great acting and a story line that is actually believable.
