Salmon Fly-Californica Pteronarcys #4-6
Adult-Wings of dark grey and bodies of orange to burnt orange.
Some say the Yakima has no Salmon Flies
Horse Hockey! There
are decent numbers of these critters on the Yakima and in certain
areas the density is definitely better then others- from the Farmlands
to Easton. While I have never seen a prolific hatch I have seen
times when the fish were definitely locked into these small helicopters.
The nymph stage and migration of this hatch
is really sometimes the best part of the activity on the Yakima.
Currently as you read this one of the better nymphs to use on
the Upper Yakima is a big rubber legged Kaufman Stone fly nymph
as the Pterynarcyus is very active from now on. We have actual
seen a few adults already!
Dry fly patterns include but are not limited to, Super large Stimilators
with or without rubber legs, Bullet heads and C-Ants.
