Basic Yakima River Hatch Chart

It is funny that after all these years, how much I and we really don't know about fly fishing. Or to put it another way - It is great how much we learn daily. This is especially true with insects. After all these years on the Yakima... and we continue to learn about food sources of the trout.

Insects are cyclical and every year is different. For example the March Browns from 1998-2001 were awesome, yet 2002 they were quite light in comparison. However, the Blue Wings of the 2002 Spring were one of the top two in 14 years and over the last 4 years the Spring Blue Wings have been rather poor.

Chasing elusive Drake Hatches is a passion for many as the infamous Drake is never predictable and always elusive. Yet if you catch it right on the Yakima or any other Western Stream it can be leg wobbling.

Hopefully this chart and the ensuing links from the Chart will help you better understand the Bugs of the Yakima. Obviously this chart is a work in progress and will continue to evolve. Feel free to contact the shop regarding any bug information.

Respectfully and fish-on
